Speaker: Yuk Chi Chan is the Founder and CEO of Charter, a Techstars Space-backed company building the unified OS to scale the space economy. Charter works with NASA Jet Propulsion Lab, the world’s leading space insurers, and the most ambitious private space companies on Earth. Charter’s team boasts deep expertise from the military, Rocket Lab, MIT, Microsoft, NASA JPL, Air Force Research Lab, Meta, and Credit Suisse.
Yuk Chi was formerly a battalion staff logistics officer in the Singapore Army Engineers, a satellite mission manager, and a space lawyer with research published by Springer Nature and the European Space Agency. In the military, Yuk Chi was responsible for coordinating maintenance and recovery operations of hundreds of armored and tracked vehicles, and either led or was involved in major Army and Joint Services projects. As a satellite mission manager, he orchestrated engineering operations to build the first commercial EDT-based propulsion system for operations in Very Low Earth Orbit. As a lawyer, he established the first space law practice in South-East Asia at Donaldson & Burkinshaw LLP in Singapore, addressed the United Nations on space sustainability law, and led a team to advise the government of Uganda on their national space policy and legislation. Yuk Chi holds a LL.B. from Durham and a LL.M. in International Law from UCL.
