Organisers were forced to abandon a remote legal conference after attendees bombarded it with porn.
An insider claimed that World Law Group’s IP seminar may have been targeted by anti-Ukraine saboteurs.
Lawyers gathered over Zoom to hear speakers from the UK, China, Ireland and Ukraine opine on the legal status of AI-generated artworks. The talk was moderated by Gowling WLG partner Matt Hervey, who is the firm’s Head of AI.
A source told ROF that, contrary to expectations, “much of the training involved the presentation of graphic pornography with backing music of what can only be described as ‘intense euro beats’”.
About thirty minutes into the conference, one attendee’s video began showing “some rather fruity imagery”.
After a discussion among the organisers the offender was ejected and normal service (i.e. without the porn) resumed for a minute or two, before, “to everyone’s shock”, another individual began presenting an explicit video, this time of someone masturbating.
The speaker at the time “valiantly” tried to continue explaining the definition of a creator under various national laws “whilst all anyone could see was close-up onanism”.
The meeting was then ended “rather abruptly”.
ROF understands the explicit interruptions took place while the speaker from Ukraine, Alla Smorodyna, was presenting, and that there are suspicions the disruption may have been politically motivated.
An insider close to organisers said they had concerns pro-Russia elements deliberately targeted Smorodyna and, “If that is the case, I think this is a very serious, not humorous, incident”.
It’s not the first time legal zoom has been brought down by naked gremlins. Moderators have previously pleaded with nude lawyers to remember that they can be seen (“Let’s make sure everybody has clothes on”), and Arthur Cox struggled when every participant’s window was hijacked by cox.
The World Law Group did not respond to a request for comment.
