Research Services Manager – Law – London
This is a leadership position within Research and Knowledge Services function of a multinational law firm and is responsible for overseeing operations across two locations in London and Birmingham.
The primary objectives of the team include:
- The provision of a high-quality legal and business research services to UK lawyers and global stakeholders.
- The delivery of training for research tools and techniques.
- Maintaining both physical and online resources, and ensuring resource availability.
- The provision of a current awareness on legal information, regulatory changes, competitor, and business intelligence.
The core responsibilities of the Research Services Manager include:
- Management of the Research Services team: Oversee daily operations to ensure high-quality service. Implement service enhancements and process changes as needed.
- Supervision and development team members: Manage the London and Birmingham teams, including appraisals, recruitment, training, professional development, and knowledge sharing.
- Fostering internal relationships: Develop and maintain relationships with lawyers and business professionals to promote services and understand changing business needs. Encourage team members to do the same.
- Contributing to strategy and development: Participate in developing departmental strategy, ensuring alignment and collaboration with the global Research Services team.
- Resource management: Assist in decision-making regarding research resources, including evaluation, trials, and marketing their use within the firm.
- Supporting service projects: Ensure the team can resource and support service development or enhancement projects across various areas.
To be a suitable applicant for this Research Services Manager role, you will require the following:
- Team leadership or staff supervision experience gained with the Research/KM or Information Services function of a law firm.
- Recognized library or information education, candidates qualified by experience may also be considered
- Considerable exposure to international legal and business research databases and resources.
- A subject matter expert around search with the ability to advise and mentor on search strategies.
- Experience providing current awareness and alerting services in a professional setting.
- An expert in interacting professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including lawyers and business professionals across multiple locations.
- Strong customer service focus and high client care standards, with the ability to instill these values in others.
- Adaptable, innovative, and forward-thinking, able to quickly respond to changing business needs.
