Kamla King Hedges, of Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024.
Kamla is survived by her brother, Maurice King (LeeAnn); stepdaughters, Sue Goddard (Win) and Marta Lawrence (Kip Bilo); grandchildren Troy Goddard (Lindsey), Taylor White (Briley), and Harrison Lawrence (Katie); nephews, Andrew and Haden King; great grandchildren, Charlie White and Lana Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hedges. In addition to her family, Kamla leaves behind many treasured friends.
Kamla was born May 31, 1946, to Wilton and Rhoda King of Covington, VA. She earned her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary, and her Master of Library Science from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. Kamla began her distinguished career as a law librarian in the Law and Legislative Branch at the Connecticut State Library. From Connecticut, Kamla moved to Washington, DC, and worked for several law firms before beginning her tenure at the Bureau of National Affairs where she most recently served as Director of Library Relations from which she retired in 2011. She was an active member of St. Alban’s Episcopal church serving on the vestry and the Altar Guild. Kamla enjoyed spending many summers vacationing on Lake Michigan with her family.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20016. A reception at the church will follow.
