THE OPPORTUNITY
We’re seeking an experienced Research Librarian to join our team based in our Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, or Melbourne CBD office, with the option to work part of your week from home.
As a Research Librarian, you will be responsible for ensuring a high quality reference and research service is provided to our internal clients. This position is full time (38 hour per week) position, hours are rostered between 8am to 6pm each day, and will vary depending on the national team needs with a minimum one day per week worked until 6pm.
Day to day, your responsibilities will include:
Research services
- Provide both simple and complex legal and business reference and research services to internal clients
- Assist users to develop their own research strategies and techniques
- Conduct complex legal and business research tasks
- Collaborate with Business Development and Practice Groups to understand information needs and undertake research that supports firm strategy
- Assist with the development and maintenance of Research Centre policies and procedures as required
- Provide reports on online usage trends and reference and research requests if required
- Set up media, regulatory and other alerting services for users
Library management systems
- Classify and catalogue new materials as required
- Assist with maintaining resource records as required
Research Centre promotion
- Assist with Research Centre tours, inductions, and promotion of our services via the firm Intranet and other online channels
- Assist with legal research training where appropriate
Collection management
- Implement collection management and knowledge sharing initiatives at the direction of the Senior Research Manager (Australia & Asia)
- Provide recommendations for purchasing new titles based on trends and feedback
- Provide feedback regarding services and subscriptions
- Participate in knowledge sharing activities
SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in librarianship (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a law library
- Demonstrated strong research skills
- Experience presenting legal research training programs
- An understanding of the legislative process and legal concepts
- Thorough understanding of legal research methodologies
- Experience with an automated library system
- Exposure to online resources for legal and business research
- Enjoys working in and contributing positively to a team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with a client service orientation
- The flexibility to vary working hours to suit client and team needs from time to time
