Primary objective

To provide cost effective and efficient library services for the Judges of the Supreme Court and the Local Court of the

Northern Territory and the legal profession.

Context statement

The position holder is responsible for the strategic planning, development and management of library services for the

Supreme Court and Local Court of the Northern Territory. The position holder leads a small team of library staff to deliver a

high quality library and information service that supports the judiciary and legal profession.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain library services for the Supreme Court and the Local Court of the Northern Territory library

collections at Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine.

2. Manage a small work unit of library staff, including financial and human resource management activities, within an

allocated budget.

3. Provide high quality legal research services to library users.

4. Maintain and develop accountability frameworks, including policies and procedures, for library resources.

5. Maintain contemporary knowledge of legal resources.

6. Collaborate with Courts and Tribunals staff to procure print and electronic resources and manage procurement contracts.

7. Maintain contemporary knowledge of information management systems, particularly those related to archiving and

disposal, to assist the court registries to manage records pursuant to relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

8. Undertake the role of Supreme Court Cyclone Shelter Manager and Northern Territory Emergency Services (NTES)

Coordination Officer.

9. Support Supreme and Local Court staff as directed.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Bachelor/Post Graduate qualification in Library, Information Management, or a related discipline that confers eligibility

for admission to an appropriate professional membership.

2. Advanced research and writing skills, including statutory interpretation as well as policy development, report writing and

project management.

3. Demonstrated ability to manage financial and human resources, including training and developing staff.

4. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

5. Good knowledge of contemporary legal resources and information management systems appropriate to a law library.
