UK – “Prolific environmental protesters will face new travel bans under a package of measures to fight crime to be announced by ministers today.”

The Times reports

Prolific environmental protesters will face new travel bans under a package of measures to fight crime to be announced by ministers today.

Priti Patel, the home secretary, will unveil new criminal disruption prevention orders that will effectively create a new type of anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) to crackdown on disruptive protests by Insulate Britain and Extinction Rebellion.

Insulate Britain staged an 11th day of protests in three weeks by blocking four busy roads in London yesterday.

The new criminal orders will prevent repeat protesters travelling around the country to disrupt motorways, places such as Parliament Square and other critical infrastructure sites. A government source dubbed the new measures “Asbos for crusties”.

Separately, a new criminal offence will apply to protesters who “interfere with key infrastructures”
