The AALL State of the Profession Report provides an overview of the law library and legal information landscape. This report captures the range of legal information professionals’ contributions, challenges, goals. It is intended to be used as a tool for benchmarking, advocacy, strategic planning, and personal development. The inaugural edition debuted in 2019 and the second edition was published in June 2021.
Topics include budgets, user services, operations, collections, preservation, partnerships, technology, current skills, and professional planning. The 2021 edition features sections on the impact of COVID-19 and diversity. The complimentary Executive Summary provides additional details.
2021_Executive-Summary_AALL-State-of-the-ProfessionThe State of the Profession Special Committee reviewed and revised the surveys that inform the AALL State of the Profession Report to ensure they reflect the current state of law librarianship and the legal information profession. The committee produced separate instruments for academic, firm/corporate, and government settings. All U.S.-based AALL members working in law library (or equivalent) settings were invited to complete the updated survey on January 12, 2021. Responses were due February 16, 2021.
