Responsible for the overall organization, development, editing, publishing, and management of the Antitrust Law Section Magazine (including print and digital editions); primary membership benefits for the Section.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Provides the principal development, review, and editing of article submissions, drafts, and final articles, including substantive antitrust and consumer protection and data privacy legal content, and manages, directs, and oversees the combined Antitrust Law Section periodical, Antitrust magazine (print and digital), from conception to publication in both print and electronic media.
  • Oversees, manages, and directs the Antitrust Law Section Magazine print and digital Editorial Boards totaling 40 volunteer antitrust lawyers, economists, and professors and over 80 substance-heavy articles per year.
  • Coordinates with Chair-Elect on Editorial Board appointments and composition of the boards. Functions as the subject matter legal expert on periodicals-related matters, consulting with the Editorial Boards and Committees of the Section, as needed.
  • Works with the Editorial Boards and authors to plan a total of 15 issues of the magazine (3 print; 12 digital) per year, review unsolicited submissions (over 25 per year of varying substance and length), and edit and prepare articles (totaling over 80 articles per year; and 500 pages of print) for publication. Plans, initiates, and leads full editorial board and smaller group meetings, leads the long-term planning process for the publications, initiates and reviews policies, and guides the peer review process, in conjunction with the volunteer Editorial Board Chairs.
  • Reviews and edits manuscripts, articles, ad copy, cover, and page proofs and works directly with the design and printing vendors on the preparation of proofs and layouts, shepherding the periodicals through production and into print.
  • Manages transition of separate bi-monthly digital publication, The Antitrust Source, to a monthly online publication: Antitrust magazine (digital).
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
  • Possession of a JD from an ABA-accredited law school, with at least one law school course in antitrust, and a working knowledge of at least basic economics.
  • Lawyer or law professor with a minimum of five years of practice, including an emphasis on antitrust (both domestic and international). Legal writing and law review or journal experience required.
Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience
  • Previous publishing experience in writing and/or editing specialized legal books, periodicals, or journals, with a significant emphasis on antitrust. Law firm and/or government practice and experience working with volunteer groups desirable.
