- Pilot programme aims at giving city edge as China’s centre for international legal and dispute resolution services
Hundreds of Hong Kong lawyers on Saturday sat for the first legal exam to qualify for practising mainland Chinese law in the Greater Bay Area, in a pilot programme aimed at giving the city the edge as the country’s centre for international legal and dispute resolution services.
About 500 solicitors and 100 barristers signed up for the GBA Legal Professional Examination at the Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Centre. The exam date was announced only last month.
The pilot scheme, announced by Beijing late last year, aims at allowing experienced Hong Kong lawyers to practise in civil and commercial cases in nine cities in neighbouring Guangdong province.
