Library Assistant Law Firm New York

The Library Assistant provides general support for the department’s technical services functions. You will work closely with the Acquisitions and Serials Librarians to ensure that library materials are processed and integrated into the collection in an accurate and efficient manner.

Specifics of the role include:

•             Processing all items including monographs, periodicals, supplements, media materials

•             Consulting regularly with the Catalogue Librarian to ensure all records are accurate and up-to-date

•             Working with the Serials and Acquisitions Librarians to ensure all materials are received when expected and to account for any materials that are not

•             Creating electronic records for new library items

•             Loose-leaf filing

•             Compiling usage statistics

•             Monitoring and reviewing retention policies

•             Acting as primary back-up for the Serials Librarian – and for certain functions of the Catalogue Librarian – in times of absence

•             Working on special projects as needed

To be considered for this role you will need:

•             A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline

•             Library experience in technical services

•             Background knowledge of law library materials and subject matter preferred

•             Must be highly organized, able to set priorities and have a strong attention to detail

•             Must have strong customer service ethic

•             Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel

•             Must have familiarity working with an integrated library system (ILS) and show ability to adapt to new technologies quickly

•             Knowledge of Library of Congress classification system and MARC 21 format preferred

•             Knowledge of ALA Filing Rules desirable
