Press Release: New Managing Partner For DLA Piper In Australia

Sydney – DLA Piper confirms that it has appointed a new Managing Partner in Australia, John Weber, to succeed the current Managing Partner Andrew Darwin, as he approaches the end of his two-year term in Australia.

Andrew, who will continue as DLA Piper’s Chief Operating Officer and will return to the UK in 2015, commented: “I’m delighted to welcome John to DLA Piper. His experience of leading one of Asia Pacific’s largest firms, combined with his enthusiasm and desire to work alongside our clients and our people here and across the global firm, makes his appointment a great fit for DLA Piper.

“Our Australian business has made significant progress over the past couple of years, as we have more closely aligned our local practice with the global firm. John joins us at an important time, as we continue to build our capability in Australia and our ability to provide an ever more unified and seamless experience for our clients, both domestic and international.”

John joins DLA Piper from Minter Ellison, where he was chief executive partner for more than five years.

John commented: “I look forward to starting a new chapter and experiencing first hand, the truly global nature of DLA Piper.

“The transformation of the business in Australia has begun under Andrew’s leadership and I’m committed to furthering that as we position Australia as a key component of the firm’s Asia Pacific, and integrated global offering for clients.”

Sir Nigel Knowles, Co-CEO, DLA Piper: “John is a great fit for DLA Piper; a natural leader with an appreciation of what we are trying to achieve globally as a business. I have confidence that he is the right successor for Andrew Darwin and one who will leverage our existing and future talent in a way that complements and supports our ambition to be the leading global business law firm.”

John commences on 1 November 2014, and will work closely with Andrew as he transitions into the role.
