The Asian Studies Center and the Center for International Legal Education at the University of Pittsburgh would like to announce an upcoming conference that may be of interest to many of you.
“Law and the Legal Profession in China” will be held at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Law on February 27-28, 2015.
Organized by Ronald Brand, James Cook, Pierre Landry, and John Givens, this conference will bring together an international panel of experts to discuss the development and current practice of the legal profession in China. “Law and the Legal Profession in China” will explore four main themes: History of Law in China, International and Commercial Law, China’s Legal Profession in Comparative Perspective with a focus on Asia, and the domestic practice of law. Our purpose is to not only understand how the practice of law has evolved over the past two decades, but also discover new opportunities for practice and research. The conference will be multidisciplinary, bringing together historians, political scientists, practicing attorneys, and established legal scholars for an opportunity to explore questions such as the legal implications of the emergence of China in both Asia and America, the development of the rule of law in China, current reforms in the practice of law in China, and corporate, regulatory, and intellectual property issues facing cross-border transactions by US and China businesses.
