King Wood & Mallesons is opening in Singapore after being granted a foreign law practice licence.

The firm plans to open its new office this Spring, once it has jumped through the rest of the country’s required regulatory hoops.

KWM joined a select club of firms with a $1 billion turnover in 2013 when it merged with SJ Berwin, when it also became the first Chinese firm to tie up with a UK firm. Dentons recently revealed it would became the second, as well as the biggest firm in the globe. Presumably the pair will now battle for worldwide supremacy by opening offices everywhere and become the Coke and Pepsi of the legal world.*

Global managing partner Stuart Fuller, who is heading up the opening, said Singapore was a “key market” for the firm’s clients given its role as a “financial and trading hub”, and as a gateway for investments around south east Asia, north Asia and India.
