Asia-Pacific focused aviation liability and insurance partner Johnston joined Clydes as a partner shortly after his departure from Kennedys in mid-July.

He joins Clyde & Co along with three lawyers, one of whom was a partner at Kennedys but joins Clydes in an of counsel role.

Johnston specialises in regulatory issues, as well as commercial disputes and transactions for the aviation industry and has handled many of the major Asian air disasters including acting for Malaysian Airlines in relation to the two losses this year.

He joined Kennedys last year via the firm’s merger with aviation boutique Gates & Partners in May (31 May 2013). Prior to Gates & Partners he was at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, which went on to merge with Clydes in November 2011 (24 October 2011).

Hill Dickinson picked up a former Gates & Partners team from Kennedys earlier this year, including name partner Sean Gates who joined as a consultant alongside Neil McGilchrist. Fellow partners Joanna Kolatsis and Saleema Brohi also joined as part of the team move in March, and became co-heads of aviation at Hill Dickinson.

Gates & Partners launched in Dubai with the hire of two lawyers from Clydes in 2011 (7 April 2011)
