Internal Re-Structure At Informa Causing Communication Problems With Clients

UK Lis Law has been abuzz with internal structural developments at Informa law in the UK ..most of which don't seem to have been passed onto the company's client base as far as HOB can work out..

It looks as though Informa have split their legal division into two separate components.

The Lloyds List Law division? headed up by Nicola Whyte and and Informa Law? headed up by Brian Waller

Whyte has informed one UK law librarian....

"We recently took the decision to split the legal division into two distinct units: Lloyd?s List Law (for which I am responsible) which covers maritime law, insurance law and arbitration/dispute resolution; and Informa Law (headed up by Brian Waller) which publishes all our general commercial law, IP and construction law titles"

It appears that this information hasn't as yet been released as a public communique though.

In another message posted to Lis Law? Kirsty Milton the BIALL Legal Information Group liaison for Informa, writes

I would like to confirm that I have been following the comments/discussion about Informa?s products and service for some time.

I approached Informa near the beginning of the year to arrange a meeting which was then held at the end of May. ?The purpose of this meeting was to put forward some of the comments and issues raised in the LIG Supplier of the Year survey results.

I am now actively engaged in following this up, and the comments posted on LIS-LAW today and Friday last week, provide further good points for discussion.

It is the purpose of BIALL to be active in putting forward the concerns of our members, and I know that Informa are keen to discuss this with me. ?It is my aim to agree a strategy for better communication with their customers, whilst also putting forward our concerns regarding pricing and changes to products and customer service.

I will continue to look for comments on LIS-LAW however if you would prefer to contact me off-list, please do so.

And with comments such as the following today on Lis Law it looks as though Informa should get some organised information out to their client base as soon as possible

This is the first I've heard of it; we certainly weren't notified by Informa. ?I am a little concerned that all these changes will lead to a compromise in quality in the journals we have paid for. ?I certainly don't feel I am getting what I signed up for!

The lack of communication and differing communication is a great concern.
