Harneys? law librarian Thomas Borkowski has been elected president of the Caribbean Association of Law Libraries (CARALL).
Borkowski who was elected at the association?s 25th annual conference held in the Bahamas in July, will serve a 2-year term.
“I’m very pleased and honoured to have been elected president as I have only been a member of the organisation for four years,” Borkowski said. Asked about the goals for his presidency, Borkowski remarked, “I hope to achieve an increase in the membership of CARALL from the law firms in the region and to raise the profile of the association throughout the Caribbean.”
In his capacity as president, Borkowski will preside over meetings of the executive committee, the annual general meetings and other meetings of the association. He will also be responsible for preparing an annual report on the association?s activities which will be submitted to the annual meeting.
Harneys? managing partner Richard Peters has extended congratulations to Borkowski. “We at Harneys welcome Thomas? election to the presidency of this organisation and we encourage him to vigorously pursue the goals he has set himself as president.”
Peters noted that while this is a commendable individual achievement for the firm?s librarian, it also presents an opportunity for Harneys to be involved at the leadership level in charting the future of this worthwhile regional association.
The 100-member Caribbean Association of Law Libraries celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. The organisation brings together librarians from throughout the Caribbean, from the law schools in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas to the court libraries, AG Chambers and law firms in Montserrat, Belize and Guyana to name a few. One of the main aims of the organisation is to promote co-operation between the various jurisdictions and to share resources to enable greater accessibility to information for members.
