Australian Created “Fee Fie Foe Firm” Website Wants To Make It Easier To Find Best Legal Service Pr Print E-mail
Written by Sean Hocking

Founder Damien McRae tells us. :“ I noticed that lawyers were always looking for case notes and commentary and checking law firm websites for these.  But they always had to check them manually, one-by-one.  So I thought I'd create a website that runs a search across all Australian law firm websites to make the job easier."

Courting Singles

I've also set ones up for the US, UK, NZ, Ireland, Canada and South Africa.  Obviously, lawyers can use it to look for casenotes etc and check their competition but laypeople could also use it to find an expert.  There is so much great content now on these sites, that I thought it was high time that someone try to make it easier to find it.”

The site is well built, looks clean and the searches are efficient.

We thought we’d try a quick search and pumped in “Climate Change” in the Australia section and received results quickly . The results made sense and immediately gave us an idea which Australian firms dealt with climate change issues.

From the site’s About Us section we learn:
Fee Fie Foe Firm is a search engine designed to give legal consumers and professionals better access to law firms and their services. It's focus is on law firm websites and the content provided on them, such as:

  • firm profiles
  • team profiles
  • practitioner profiles
  • media releases
  • legal news and updates
  • client seminars
  • case notes and other expert legal analysis
  • newsletters, bulletins and other publications.

The  mission.
To make it easier for legal consumers and professionals to find the best legal service providers and resources for their needs.

To encourage the development of high quality, consumer-focussed law firm websites.

To help develop the legal services market and improve the quality of services delivered to consumers.

The approach.
Comprehensive coverage Our aim is to provide consumers with the most comprehensive overview of the market possible. We include all forms of law firm in our search engine: from large multi-national multi-practice firms to small boutique practices and sole practitioners.

Jurisdiction focus To reflect the law and legal practice, we have separate searches for each jurisdiction. Currently we have searches for the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa, with more jurisdictions to come soon. Watch this space!

Value-added results In order to help users locate the most relevant resources faster, our editors add "refinement tags" to select website pages. These tags offer users a way to narrow their search and appear as a list of links at the top of the search results. When a user clicks a refinement tag the pages that have had that tag applied to them are given priority in the results.

Their current refinement tags are:
people – pages that provide practitioner profiles or résumés
expertise – pages that describe the area(s) in which a firm, team or practitioner specialises
publications – such as case notes, news, alerts, updates, bulletins, newsletters, articles, seminars and other commentary or analysis
media releases – news on the firms themselves

So far editors have added refinement tags to our US, Australian and New Zealand searches. Refinement tags for their Canadian, UK, Irish and South African searches are coming soon!.

As well, please note that Fee Fie Foe Firm does not cover every single law firm with an online presence in the world. Our editors will continue to add firms and refinement tags and jurisdictions to make it as comprehensive as we possibly can, but given the ever-changing nature of the industry, there may always be some law firms that escape our attention. If you do notice a law firm missing from our search engine, please let us know!

Our future. Our editors are working hard to add more law firm sites, more refinement tags and more jurisdictions. We've also got a number of other great tools in the works, so keep an eye out for these in the coming months. In the meantime, we hope you find Fee Fie Foe Firm useful and user-friendly. If you have any questions, comments or feedback on any aspect of our site, please don't hesitate to drop us a line.
