Are Lexis Trying To Sell Their Practice Management Group?
Written by Sean Hocking
Not one, but two of our sources on informed us on Friday that there are some fairly strong intimations that Lexis are looking to divest themselves of their Practice Management Group.
Our first source says that they've heard from Dayton based Lexis sources that the company seems to be doing some "window dressing" tin order to make things look better for any potential buyer.
As most of you will already know from previous HOB posts and other reports Lexis have shifted their inhouse engineering staff and outsourced these roles to India.
They have, we're also told. Given up fabricating a "global platform" and are going instead for a FAST search engine solution which searches across platforms.
Finally, our source tells us. They are folding in the Nexis business into Lexis which is designed to cut down on staffing and therefore costs.
Our second source informs us that Lexis may be pitching the TPM group to Wolters Kluwer in the US.
Whoever is approached will be aware of the fact that the Lexis architecture is now over 30 years old. The TPM group is comprised of many different products doing different things and as we enter a recession in the US some law firms may be taking a closer look at their huge Lexis contracts in order to see where savings may be made.
