Fiji’s Chief Justice Launches Vol2 Of Fiji Law Reports

The Fiji Times reports……..CHIEF Justice Anthony Gates last night launched Volume 2 of the Fiji Law Reports 2012.

The launch was attended by the Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem, Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde, High Court judges, magistrates and lawyers.

In his address, Justice Gates reminded those present at the event of the importance of accuracy in submitting names of those who appeared before them or those that members of the law society represented.

“As you all know, law reports are essential picture of the law, there must be scrutiny of the pronouncement orders and reasoning of the courts so we are sure that there are certain arbitrary and with the law reports, we can see what we feel intellectually about the proceedings,” Justice Gates said.

He said those who used the Fiji Law Reports could be rest assured the highest standards had been adopted by British Publishing Company LexisNexis in publishing the second volume of the report.

“You should always check for citations, the spelling of names may be foreign to you, accuracy is so important.”

Justice Gates said the Judicial Services Commission would be working on the 2015 law reports, in order to start publishing at the end of the year.

He said they were also looking at publishing the 2013 and 2014 reports.

“And at the same time this year, we will do (launch) two more book reports from 2002 onwards, so it will take a little bit of time but we do have time, but I feel we should get four volumes.”
