The faces behind practicesource.com
Sean Hocking
Sean Hocking is the owner and editor of Law Librarians News
He started the newsletter in 2002 after seeing that legal librarians and Knowledge Managers were not receiving regular updates that consolidated and provided an independent precis of what was happening in the world of legal publishing and legal information management.
Four years later and we now work with other selected independent information providers including “excited utterances” and “legal technology insider” to provide our readership with fortnightly updates that allow an understanding of current trends, developments and news from the market.
LLN/eu is read by law librarians in jurisdictions around the world including The UK, The U.S, Australia, New Zealand, Canada Europe & Asia.
LLN/eu is currently developing agreements with providers that will bring discounts to our readership on legal conferences and the the purchase of legal publications.
Sean Hocking has worked in legal book retailing and publishing for over 15 years. For LBC (Australia), Point Of Law (Australia’s first independent legal bookshop), Legalease (UK), Lexis Nexis(Australia). He also developed Australia’s first independent legal portal excata.com which was subsequently sold to Lexis Nexis Australia in 2000.

Joy London
In May 2002, Joy created her blawg, "excited utterances", not just to chronicle the world of legal technology, knowledge management and professional training in legal domains, but also to explore the complicated sociological and psychological aspects of implementing KM in international law firms.
After obtaining her JD from Temple University School of Law in 1986, Joy worked a few years as a prosecutor in New York, before changing her career path to pursue law publishing. In 2002, while working for an international law firm, Joy discovered the world of knowledge management and has been hooked on it ever since.

John Heckman
John Heckman has worked in the legal industry for over 25 years. He founded Heckman Consulting (based in the New York metropolitan area) 11 years ago. He specialises in software integration for small to medium size firms, with clients ranging from solo practitioners to AmLaw 100 firms.
Heckman Consulting focuses on products such as Worldox document management, Amicus Attorney, and LexisNexis products including TimeMatters, PCLaw and HotDocs. He was summarily excommunicated (no cause given) from the LexisNexis "Certified Independent Consultant" program in October 2007.
John Taylor
John worked as head of information technology for one of Australia’s largest law firms. During that time the very beginnings of the World Wide Web led him into experimenting with information sharing technologies.
John and Sean practicesource.com met over a cup of coffee to discuss how to compete against the millions of dollars being spent (wasted) at the time on a large Australian legal portal. With a very small budget of less than a thousand dollars and using open source software practicesource.com was subsequently born.
