BIALL Legal Foundation Course Application Extended

This came into our inbox yesterday…

Dear All,

I originally set the deadline for the BIALL Legal Foundation Course applications as the 27th August but as I’m on annual leave for the next two weeks I’m going to extend the deadline to the 7th September.  Please do send in all applications by that deadline so that I can process them upon my return.

Legal Foundations Course

The Legal Foundations Course (previously the Law for Librarians Course) is run by BIALL’s Professional Development Committee in conjunction with the University of Westminster Department of Professional Legal Studies.

It is an online course providing a grounding in legal concepts for librarians and information workers with at least one year’s experience in a law environment. It is not a course in how to conduct legal research, but rather a way of getting to grips with the terminology used in the legal profession, providing you with a better understanding of the law in England and Wales, and of how it has been applied in various subject areas.

Each week a new lecture is made available to participants; these lectures may be in the format of audio recordings with slides or video files.   A small activity such as a multiple choice quiz follows the lecture.  Participants are recommended to set aside 3 hours per week to complete the activities.   The students must pass the online activities in order to receive the end of course certificate.

2014/15 Course

The course will start in October 2014 with an optional introductory face-to-face session at the University of Westminster provisionally arranged for Monday 20th October at 2.00-4.00 pm, exact details will be confirmed with course participants.
