The firm will anchor the new office with Jai Pathak and three partners from Jones Day’s Singapore office, Emad Khalil, John Viverito and Saptak Santra. Pathak joined the firm earlier this year and focuses on cross-border transactions with an emphasis on India and other parts of South and Southeast Asia. Pathak was responsible for opening Jones Day's Singapore office and previously led that firm's India practice.
"We are committed to expanding our international platform and have made doing so a strategic priority for the firm," said Ken Doran, Managing Partner of Gibson Dunn. "Opening in Singapore, where many of our clients have established their Asian Pacific headquarters, is a logical move for Gibson Dunn. From Singapore, we will be positioned to assist our clients in all of South and Southeast Asia, including India."
Doran added, "Like New York, London and Dubai, Singapore is one of the leading financial centers in the world, giving us enhanced capacity to serve our clients throughout the world. There are natural synergies between Singapore and our recently opened Dubai office as well as other offices of the firm as we work with our clients on global transactions that touch many of the world’s financial centers. With Emad, John and Saptak, three experienced and highly regarded partners, supported initially by six associates, we have critical mass and an ideal platform from which we can pursue opportunities in other parts of the region."
"Opening the Singapore office is an exciting step that will help extend Gibson Dunn’s geographical reach to important markets in Asia," said Pathak, who will serve as the Partner in Charge of our Singapore office and lead the firm’s efforts in the Asia Pacific region. "The opportunity was very compelling, particularly with a group as strong as Emad, John and Saptak. Many partners in the firm already know the three new partners very well. They have established practices, a strong client base, and are well known and respected in the region."
