One News NZ reports.. "New Zealand's justice system has been put on trial in a new survey and the verdict is damning"
The report goes on to say...
The survey, obtained by ONE News, shows that many do not trust New Zealand's justice system. Participants were asked if they had full trust and confidence in the justice system, and two thirds (62%) say no, while 36% said yes.
An overwhelming majority say sentences are too light and many want capital punishment brought back.
When asked to describe sentences given to criminals, a whopping three quarters (75%) of participants said they were too soft, 21% said sentences were about right and only 1% said they were too hard.
Those sentiments do not surprise law and order campaigners.
"We are picking up the vibe everywhere we go - people are frustrated. The fact that politicians, bureaucrats, academics in Wellington, who are introducing these laws, are not listening to them," says Garth McVicar, Sensible Sentencing Trust.
And if you want to be truly depressed - it's worth reading on... to see that even New Zealanders are swinging towards re-introducing the death penalty.
