The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine School of Law is pleased to announce that the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC) is sponsoring a full-tuition scholarship for Pepperdine’s International Commercial Arbitration LLM.

BAC is a not-for-profit permanent organization devoted to providing a forum for impartial and efficient alternative dispute resolution including arbitration and mediation. It was founded in 1995 following the passage of the Arbitration Law of the People’s Republic of China. The BAC focuses on contractual and property-related disputes, both commercial and international, among citizens, legal persons and other organizations. Since its founding, the BAC has grown into the foremost arbitration commission in China providing its services to both domestic and foreign parties. From an initial annual load of only a handful of cases, today the BAC consistently ranks among the top in both in the number of cases accepted and the total disputed amount.

As the foremost arbitration commission in China, the BAC is regarded by Economic Intelligence Unit as “the only local arbitration commission which meets or surpasses global standards”.

Pepperdine is pleased to announce that because of this development, it will extend its application deadline to April 15, 2013. Interested students should send a two-page letter explaining why they would like to be selected for the JAMS and/or BAC Scholarship with their application. International LLM students may want to participate in Pepperdine’s Legal English Gateway, offering a four-week Legal English intensive experience in July. For additional information about the JAMS Scholarship, the International Commercial Arbitration LLM, or the Legal English Gateway program contact Marcelo Rosadilla at the Straus office.
