We read that the The Fiji Law Society yesterday reminded 18 graduate lawyers to be vigilant and stay away from troubled lawyers who have created a bad reputation for the society.

FLS President Isireli Fa told the graduates at their welcoming ceremony in Suva that the biggest problem faced by the society is the increasing number of complaints against lawyers.

“This shouldn’t be a deterrent for you and I urge you to carry out your duties with honesty and good faith,”
he said.

He said the complaints received by the society were only limited to a few group of lawyers.

Fa did not specify the nature of the complaints.

“We are currently working on such complaints to see if we can rectify the problem. These will be done through a disciplinary panel.”

He also reminded the young lawyers about the sacrifice one needs to make to do well in the profession.

“It could be tragedy for some if you choose the wrong path but you could reap the benefits if you concentrate and at least spend 5-10 years of hard work in the profession.”
