The Most Arrogant Biglaw Firms? There’s A Ranking For That!
By STACI ZARETSKY
If you aspire to work in Biglaw, it’s likely that you’ve already got a certain air of je ne sais quoi about you. You’re probably a prestige whore who looks down your nose at others whom you deem to be inferior to you. You probably think you’re the sh*t, and you firmly believe that others should think so too. You know people call you a jerk behind your back, but you don’t care because you know they’re just jealous. You are the most special and unique of all snowflakes, and people should be honored to breathe the same air as you.

Congratulations! You’re an arrogant a-hole, and there are many firms that would be glad to have you among their ranks — because according to the latest survey results, they’re filled to the brim with people just like you.

Which Biglaw firms are just as cocky as you are? Luckily, there’s a ranking for that…

Law360 (sub. req.) collects findings from the latest BTI Consulting Group Client Services A-Team report, which names the 63 most arrogant law firms on the block, categorizing them into three distinct tiers of arrogance (douche, douchier, and douchiest — no, not really). We bet that some of the firms that made the lowly douche tier are rolling their eyes with disdain at the very thought of coming in third place.

Let’s talk methodology and fun facts before we get to the ranking. In order to assess arrogance, BTI polled corporate counsel from Fortune 1000 companies, and just one mention of a particular firm was enough to land it on the list. The more mentions a firm got, the higher it climbed on the list. Curiously enough, the list of arrogant firms has more than doubled since the legal industry escaped the depths of the recession, but has grown two times as fast as BTI’s list of firms praised for excellent client service; per the survey results, “some [firms] are more arrogant than their performance warrants.” Cue additional eye-rolling.

Without any further ado, it’s time to behold the firms that received the accolade no one wants:

BTI’s 2014 Most Arrogant Law Firms
Most Arrogant
Skadden Arps (taking the title for the fourth year in a row)
Second-Most Arrogant
Cravath
DLA Piper
Jones Day
Kirkland & Ellis
Latham & Watkins
Sullivan & Cromwell
Both Skadden and DLA Piper refused to comment on their new honor. As for the rest, let’s see how arrogant Cravath is when those year-end bonus memos roll out (we’re thinking sometime next week). Do you think there are any firms that should be added to the first and second tiers of arrogance? Of course you do. You’ve got a superior legal mind. Feel free to let us know in the comments or by email.

P.S. If you’d like to see the firms that made the third tier of arrogance in this ranking, you can find out here for the low, low price of $2,600. Come on, we all know you can afford it, you arrogant sons of bitches.
